I have been keeping quite a secret. 🤫 Saturday officially marked one month since I said “yes!” to Rob. 🤗
On December 11, literally minutes after I got home from work, but before walking the dog, he asked in the most Rob way I would expect. And it was perfect.
While I knew that an engagement was coming, I wasn’t expecting it then, so I still was pretty surprised. Right after I said yes, while Rob is down on one knee in our apartment, I say out loud “I thought I would cry and I’m not. But I love you!”
We both said I love you a few times, with smiles the size of our face and Rob walked the dog before we headed out for a casual celebratory-ish dinner at a neighborhood spot. We face-timed with my parents after dinner to share the news (they were thrilled obviously!), and let them know we were keeping it quiet for a bit longer, so 🤫.
We were leaving the next day for my dearest friend Ashley‘s wedding in Savannah, so the last thing I wanted to do was divert any attention from her wedding weekend. I shared the news with her when we arrived late Thursday night and basically said, “ok, that’s the last of it you’ll hear about it from me this weekend – it’s your weekend!”
We planned to tell Rob’s family when we got back from Savannah, but then when he told his sister, she suggested we surprise his parents and brother with the news for Christmas. I LOVE surprises, so I was totally on-board. We surprised his family, and most of our friends in person that we were able to see while we were in Chicago for a few days for Christmas. I’ve honestly been overwhelmed with opinions and questions, so I’ve just held off on posting anything or making some “big announcement”. And, Rob is just a much more private guy than I am – so we’ve just been keeping the news to ourselves and close friends.
We have an idea for what we’d like to do for the wedding, but we haven’t made any decisions. No date yet (some of the best advice I’ve gotten so far is to just enjoy being engaged). But we are leaning towards intimate, relatively private and something that is reflective of the both of us. We might even elope!
Anyhow, now that I’ve put it all out there, I can finally start adding a few (or more) posts about wedding-ish things, right? 🤷🏼♀️
